The Origins of the Shih Tzu
THE YORKSHIRE
This dog seems to have quite distant roots. Some say he is Tibetan, others say he is Chinese. Actually it’s very likely that the Shih-Tzu comes from an union between the Lhasa Apso(which is a Tibetan dog) and the Pekinese(obviously Chinese). It is said that the first stem would come from a Lhasa Apso offered as a gift from the Dalai-Lama to the emperors who back then ruled China in mid17th century.
He was introduced in Europe around 1930 and in Great Britain in 1938. The English kennel club would recognize him only around 1946 and Americans in 1969. Since then he hasn’t stopped improving.
