A caress is worth a thousand words

Hugging is also a type of language for dogs. Indeed, the spot you pet has significance for him

On his head. It shows the dog that his master rules. It’s like if he was saying. “I’m the boss. I put you at rest and I protect you”. You show him your authority.

On the back. It’s also a gesture that you rule but with less authority. Meaning “I’m the boss and I am in excellent mood.

On the side. He reads into it as an affectionate validation. The dog says to himself. “I am so lucky to have a master that loves me and is a great companion”.

Under the snout. This gesture is purely affectionate. This caress give him great satisfaction. You will notice by his eye contact.
